6. Newsletter (dated July 9, 2010)
Dear subscribers to the EuCheMS Chemistry Congress Newsletter,
Dear participants of the 2nd and 3rd EuCheMS Chemistry Congress,
Dear colleagues,
creating your personal timetable for the 3rd EuCheMS Chemistry Congress in Nürnberg is ever so easy. By using the hyperlink for the programme not only attendees, but also all colleagues who have not yet registered for the congress will open an interactive programme with a comprehensive set of features that already allows easy management of 20 of the 22 main symposia. The remaining two, plus “Jam Sessions” plus 10 special symposia, the poster session and a wealth of other events will be available mid July.
Why “Jam Sessions?” So far, the number of abstracts for Nürnberg is getting close to 2000 – which is of course a success, but means in turn that for some symposia the conveners were flooded with high quality papers, but had only a limited number of slots given. Consequently the scientific committee decided to install thematically focussed “Jam Sessions” called “Molecular Transformations” covering organic chemistry, new materials, supramoecular and biological chemistry as well as inorganic chemistry incorporating additional oral presentations. We are confident, that these Jam Sessions attract a lot of interest, as it was the case for example in Torino 2008.
If you haven’t already done so, please register. The regular registration fee is valid until July 20.
Looking forward to seeing you all in Nürnberg.

5. Newsletter (dated May 20, 2010)
Dear subscribers to the EuCheMS Chemistry Congress Newsletter,
Dear participants of the 2nd and 3rd EuCheMS Chemistry Congress,
Dear colleagues and authors,
we can all be very happy with the state of continuing preparations for “our” congress in Nürnberg: The number of registrations and abstract submissions saw a dramatic increase when reaching the May 5 deadline for early registration fees and for oral presentations. More than 1400 delegates have registered so far, and with over 1600 abstracts the scientific committee can now choose from a wealth of high quality papers for the lecture programme and the poster session. As soon as this preparatory work is done, the GDCh congress team is ready to put everything together and make the programme available online.
May 5 was just an interim target, with last-minute posters still possible until June 30. So, if you haven’t made up your mind yet, why not join your colleagues and submit a poster now? It is just a mouseclick away http://www.euchems-congress2010.org/abstracts.htm
And, even better, until May 25, 2010, the online submission of oral presentations is still possible for the topics:
• Resources and Environment: Water and Food for an Increasing Population
• Supramolecular Systems: Chemical Biology
• Molecular Life Sciences: Biocatalysis and Biomaterials
• Analysis, Manipulation and Simulation: New Developments in Theory
Please tell all your friends and colleagues, that the regular registration fee is valid until July 20 http://www.euchems-congress2010.org/registration.htm.
Please note that the congress webpage also contains information regarding accommodation and travel. Lufthansa and Deutsche Bahn, official carriers of the congress, offers special rates for delegates http://www.euchems-congress2010.org/travelsite/reach.htm .
Looking forward to seeing you all in Nürnberg.

Dear colleagues,
On behalf of the European Association for Chemical and Molecular Sciences, we are pleased to invite you to participate (or encourage your young collaborators to participate) to the competition for the European Young Chemist Award 2010 (third edition).
The award is intended to showcase and recognise the excellent research being carried out by young scientists working in the chemical sciences and will be presented at the 3rd European Chemistry Congress in Nurnberg (Germany) from 29/08 - 02/09/2010. Applicants must be less then 35 years old by 29 August 2010 and co-authors of an abstract submitted to the 3rd European Chemistry Congress. The complete application must be sent to euchem-award@scigiovani.it by 05 May 2010, i.e. the deadline for the Abstracts submission to the 3rd European Chemistry Congress.
The application includes the abstract, a curriculum vitae, copy of a personal document, a supporting letter from an expert and a brief description of the research featured in the abstract.
A panel of finalists will be selected on the basis of the evaluation of the Symposia Chairs. Finalists will compete talking about their research at a special session of the 3rd European Chemistry Congress.
Both winners at a PhD and at a 35 years level will be awarded in a final ceremony with Gold/Silver medals and a remuneration. The medals and remunerations are kindly sponsored by the Italian Chemical Society.
Please find all the information about the award on the web site http://www.scigiovani.it/modules.php?name=EuYoungChemAward2010

4. Newsletter (dated March 31, 2010)
Dear subscribers to the EuCheMS Chemistry Congress Newsletter,
Dear participants of the 2nd EuCheMS Chemistry Congress 2008,
Dear colleagues,
In my last letter, I promised you a tool to facilitate your conference planning. Now we are proud to inform you about exact times when to attend the symposia and events of your choice: Just visit http://www.euchems-congress2010.org/scientific.htm, open the file with the congress schedule, check out and see what is happening. The congress starts with the opening ceremony, two plenary lectures and a welcome reception in the afternoon of August 29. From Monday to Thursday we embark upon the programme with a plenary lecture at 8.30 a.m., followed by a coffee break; at 10.00 a.m. we continue with the more specialized sessions and finish off late in the evening, be it with a social event or the poster session on Tuesday. Thursday afternoon sees the closing ceremony and an invitation to Prague 2012.
The congress schedule will be updated and linked to more detailed sources of information successively. Right now, the final list with speakers isn’t available of course, as there are still almost five weeks left to submit an abstract eligible for oral presentation: http://www.euchems-congress2010.org/abstracts.htm
Remember that the core scientific programme stands for already 130 hours of lectures; additional special symposia and guest events will take place, covering Nuclear Chemistry, Sustainability in and of Chemical Education, ethical questions as well as special topics in medicinal, organic and inorganic chemistry and life sciences.
From the other events to choose from I mention just a few: Finalists of the European Young Chemist Award will compete talking about their research at a special session and winners of the Reaxys PhD prize will have the chance to present their research. The social programme includes an organ recital at St Sebaldus Church and a different kind of conference dinner called “C60-Party - Chemistry meets Soccer”
Looking forward to seeing you all in Nürnberg.

1. Newsletter (dated December 16, 2009)
Dear subscribers to the EuCheMS Chemistry Congress Newsletter,
Dear participants of the Torino EuCheMS Congress 2008,
Dear colleagues,
May I introduce myself? My name is Gerhard Karger, and I am a chemist by training, a senior staff member of the Gesellschaft Deutscher Chemiker and, besides other duties, also the coordinating manager for the 3rd EuCheMS Chemistry Congress, to be held in Nürnberg from August 29 until September 2, 2010.
I am enthusiastic that so many of you have already registered for our conference newsletter, thus showing your interest in what will be one of the major scientific events of the coming year. Organising a conference of this size has its ups and downs, its hopes and concerns. Is the programme attractive enough? Will the delegates like the conference venue? Do we have enough money to pay for the thousand things which are necessary to arrange a great meeting? Please browse through our news list to see what has been already achieved.
Planning and preparation has gone well so far, and we have set the stage for a successful conference. In particular, please have a look at our scientific programme and the list of well- selected and excellent speakers. Don’t miss the chance now to present your scientific achievements to a truly international audience and submit your paper (currently still eligible for an oral presentation) as soon as possible.
I hope you all had an exciting and prosperous year 2009 with many pleasant memories. Now let’s look forward to Nürnberg 2010.
I wish you a merry Christmas and good health and success in the New Year.
